The supply mix continues to evolve with renewable generation taking an increasing role in powering customers.

No longer will the lack of transmission facilities or transmission congestion impede the development of new generation. Distributed generation, which the smart grid will facilitate, will enhance the reliability of the grid.

The smart grid will allow better communication between generators, transmission and distribution companies and system operators allowing these stakeholders to more efficiently manage their assets and operation.
